6 Ideas For Homemade Christmas Gifts

The countdown to the holiday season has already begun! It's time to create some thoughtful, high-quality presents!

Want to give your dear ones something they can display every holiday season? Try making gifts.

A handmade gift makes someone feel special since, rather than providing a store-bought gift, you took the time to make something yourself. Without a doubt, the individual who receives it will be filled with positive energy.

And, in case you need some help and inspiration, check out these 6 awesome ideas for homemade Christmas gifts.

Winter-themed resin coasters

If you are searching for a DIY Christmas gift for your parents and want to give them holiday decor that can be displayed all year long and is functional, try making resin coasters. Use a mold of your choice, the Roxy Epoxy 16 oz Resin Kit, and get creative!

What you’ll need:

  • Silicone coaster molds
  • Items of your choice to embed (such as little snowflakes)
  • Disposable measuring cups and larger plastic cups to mix the resin in
  • Wooden stir sticks
  • Gloves
  • Dropcloth - in case of spills
  • Dust covers
  • Clear bumpers

Step 1: Mix up the first coat of resin. You’ll only need a small amount - it's just enough to act as glue for the items you are embedding.

Step 2: Pour a little of the mixed resin into each mold. Then, gently press the items you are embedding into each mold. The molds may have a rim built into them, so you can embed all items upside down to ensure that they would be right side up when turned over.

Step 3: Cover up the molds with your dust cover and leave them to cure for around 4 hours.

Step 4: Pour the second layer of epoxy resin. Once you are satisfied with how your coasters are looking, cover them up again with your dust cover and leave them alone for at least 24 hours.

Step 5: Peel away the silicone mold and add bumpers.

Festive resin frames

Keeping photos in a photo frame extends their life. Photo frames are excellent DIY Christmas gifts for your girlfriend, friend or parents since they help to preserve a person's memories.

Here’s how to create a festive resin frame:

Step 1: Cut out strips of cardboard. Use the ruler to measure into these strips - depending on how thick or thin you want your frame to be.

Step 2: Bend the cardboard upward and place the ruler on the lines. Make sure the angle is correct. Rep until you've gotten four throughs, two of one length and two of the other.

Step 3: Cut a little piece out of the inner edge of two of the troughs and join the throughs at the corners. To make a fully linked rectangular trough, use duct tape.

Step 4: Fill a plastic cup halfway with equal parts A and B of epoxy and resin and stir thoroughly for five minutes.

Step 5: Fill the chosen mold with the mixture and attempt to get it as near to the top as possible.

Step 6: Protect the item with a dust cover and leave it to cure for 6 hours at room temperature.

Step 7: Carefully remove the object from the mold once it has hardened.

Step 8: Smooth and rough places on the frame using 100-grit sandpaper.

The mold is now ready for casting.

Christmas candles

Candles are an awesome DIY Christmas gift for mom from daughter.

Christmas candles are a simple way to add a festive mood to any house, while also making it aesthetically and scent attractive. And, whichever aroma appeals to you the most, there's almost probably a Christmas candle to match.

Some examples of holiday-inspired scents include:

  • Spices of fir, pine, and cedar (like cinnamon and clove)
  • Sweets and cookies
  • Fruit with vanilla flavor (like orange and apple)
  • Pistachios (like chestnut and pecan)
  • Eggnog
  • Christmas candy canes
  • Ash with firewood
  • Chocolate
  • Gingerbread

To start with candle-making, you’ll need:

  • Wick
  • Tin
  • Wax
  • Melting pot
  • Wax dye
  • Fragrance

Whether you are a beginner or a professional, our candle-making kit has everything you need, comes with an easy-to-follow guide, and is fun to use!

Simple steps on how to create the perfect Christmas candle:

Step 1: Apply the glue dot on the wick's bottom.

Step 2: Stick the wick to the tin's bottom and secure it to the central device.

Step 3: Pour the wax into the melting pot in step three. Check to see whether the wax will fit in the tin.

Step 4: Continue to heat and stir until all of the wax has melted.

Step 5: Pour the dye into the wax and stir constantly until it is completely dissolved.

Step 6: Remove from heat and test the temperature.  Drop the selected scent into the wax at roughly 149°F (65°C).

Step 7: Continue swirling until all of the wax has dissolved.

Step 8: Allow the wax to cool to 131°F (55°C) before pouring it into the candle tin. If the wax begins to sink, remember to replace it.

Step 9: Allow around 45 minutes for it to solidify. Cut the wick to a suitable length. You'll get a perfect candle.

Jolly jewelry

Anyone may go to the mall and buy an expensive necklace or set of earrings on the spur of the moment. Handmade jewelry, on the other hand, conveys a higher feeling of consideration because it isn't something that can be quickly manufactured, purchased, or gifted. The relationship to a unique handcrafted piece of jewelry - whether it's a set of earrings, a necklace, a bracelet, or a ring - is priceless.

Whether you choose to work yourself on the items you give or offer the kit as a gift itself, Roxy Epoxy’s Jewelry Making Kit has everything you need to create special gems.

Supplies you’ll need:

  • Resin and hardener
  • Safety gear: latex gloves, drop cloths, and apron (respirator and safety glasses are highly recommended)
  • Spatula and plastic mixing spoons
  • Measuring jug or cup (small ones are preferable for jewelry making)
  • Jewelry bezels, molds, or casing
  • Decorative items such as flowers or glitter

Here’s how to create unique jewels in just a few steps:

Step 1: Prepare the bezels/molds and decorative items.

Step 2: Mix the resin. Additionally, you can mix the resin with mica powder or glow-in-the-dark pigments.

Step 3: Pour the first resin layer.

Step 4: Add your decorative item to the resin.

Step 5: Repeat with additional resin layers.

Step 6: Remove the cured mixture from the mold.

Step 7: Add jewelry fixtures.

Merry little keychains and other ornaments

Keychains are one of the most popular and widely distributed promotional things. They may be used to locate personal items, taken as souvenirs from throughout the globe, or given as wedding favors because they are small, lightweight, and affordable. Some folks have amassed quite a collection of these!

Supplies you need to create resin keychains:

  • Roxy Epoxy Resin 16 oz Kit (includes separate bottles of epoxy and hardener, measuring cups, disposable gloves, wooden stirring sticks, and a 24 color set of mica 5g powder bags)
  • Silicone molds
  • Jump rings
  • Jewelry chain
  • Jewelry pliers
  • Keyrings
  • Some accessories you’d like to add: glitter, flowers, buttons, etc.
  • Hand drill
  • Sandpaper

After you’ve mixed the epoxy resin accordingly, follow these next simple steps:

Step 1: Fill the mold with a little amount of resin. Use a wooden popsicle stick to distribute the resin into each of the nooks and crannies if you're using letter-shaped molds or other molds with corners. Fill the molds about halfway with resin, but not entirely.

Step 2: Use tweezers to place selected items inside the mold. To fix them to the resin, use the tweezers to press down on them.

Step 3: Pour extra resin into the molds to cover the embedded items and fill them all the way to the rim. Simply make a new batch of resin if the resin in your cup has solidified by the time you've added the small objects. You're fine to go if you were quick and the resin was still in liquid form.

Step 4: Allow at least 24 hours for the resin to solidify in the mold before removing it. If necessary, sand the edges of your product using 120-grit fine sandpaper to smooth off the surface and corners.

Step 5: Drill a tiny hole on the top of your DIY keychain with a hand drill. Drill only about an eighth of an inch deep.

Step 6: Now it’s time to screw an eye screw into the hole you just made.

Step 7: Finally, use pliers to secure the keychain hardware to the eye screw.

DIY sparkling resin notebook cover

This is a great DIY Christmas gift for your coworkers or a friend who likes to keep their ideas organized in one place. We’re sure that the first line written inside of it will be, “Dear diary, I just received the prettiest gift ever!”

Supplies you'll need to create an epoxy notebook:

  • Clear casting epoxy
  • Acrylic paint - in the color of your choice
  • Notebook mold
  • Mixing cups
  • Stir sticks
  • Notebook paper
  • Notebook rings

Here’s how to make a stunning notebook cover:

Step 1: Start by mixing equal parts of the hardener and resin.

Step 2: Stir for two minutes, then pour into a second cup and stir for another minute using a new stir stick.

As with other resin projects, DIY resin notebook covers are completely customizable, and you can color them whatever you want! You may also sprinkle some glitter into the mix.

Step 3: When your mixture is finished, whisk in a few drops of acrylic paint.

Step 4: Slowly pour the mix into the mold. Be careful not to fill the openings on the left.

Step 5: After around 20 minutes, bubbles may emerge on the resin's surface. You can blast them with a heat gun.

Step 6: Once the resin has had enough time to cure, you may remove it from the mold. Remember to cast two pieces for your DIY resin notebook's front and back!

Step 7: The final step is to put your notebook together by inserting the paper and rings.

Congratulations on completing your notebook!

Before you go…

Remember to work in a well-ventilated space and protect the surface with a drop cloth or mat. Put on your protective gloves next. If you're cautious, working with epoxy resin and accessories doesn't have to be a messy procedure, but it's still a good idea to cover everything in case of leaks.

Good luck in creating your gifts and Merry Christmas!
